HIDE or UNHIDE ROWS and COLUMNS in Excel

Hiding or Unhiding Rows and Columns are one of the most popular commands in Microsoft Excel. These commands come in handy and easy to execute with the help of few mouse clicks and shortcut keys. In this article, we are going to cover how to hide/unhide columns and rows in excel manually and via shortcut keys.

BASIC APPLICATION

HOW TO HIDE COLUMNS IN EXCEL

    1. To manually hide a column in excel using your mouse, simply select the column or columns you want to hide by hovering your mouse to the column name(s). In this example, let us select column E

    2. Right + click.

    3. Then select Hide

    1. To manually unhide column(s) in excel using your mouse, simply select the columns on both sides of the hidden column(s). In this example, Column E is hidden. As such, you should select columns D to F.

    2. Right + click.

    3. Then select Unhide.

Shortcut Key:

The shortcut keys unhide the column(s) that cross the selected cell.

Note: The shortcut key to unhide column may not work with windows 10 due to conflict with keyboard switching shortcut. As such you need to un-assign the keyboard Layout Hot Key and Input Language.

Go to Advanced Keyboard Settings > Region > Language

    1. To manually hide a row in excel using your mouse, simply select the row or rows you want to hide by hovering your mouse to the row number(s). In this example, let us select row 3.

    2. Right + click.

    3. Then select Hide


Shortcut Key:

The shortcut keys hide the row(s) that cross the selected cell.

    1. To manually unhide row(s) in excel using your mouse, simply select the rows on both sides of the hidden row(s). In this example, row 3 is hidden. As such, you should select rows 2 to 4.

    2. Right + click.

    3. Then select Unhide.
